Diwali

This week in RE we have learnt all about the festival of Diwali.

Today, we learnt about the different ways Hindus celebrate Diwali.

We learnt that Hindus send cards and well wishes to family and friends because Diwali is a celebration of the Hindu New Year. We created our own Diwali cards including elements of the celebration like flower garlands, dryas and Rama's bow.

We also learnt about the relevance of rangoli patterns during Diwali. We know they are beautiful, vibrant patterns made out of sand, rice, flowers or coloured powders, and are used by Hindus to welcome the goddess, Lakshmi, and ward off evil spirits. We had a go at creating our own rangoli patterns!

Can you have a go at making a rangoli pattern at home?
