Love letters!
Our first core text this term is 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes. Having read and clarified the opening events, the children got into character as either the Highwayman or Bess before writing a love letter...
Using key descriptions from the text, as well as attempting to use similes and metaphors (as used by Alfred Noyes in the original), the pupils wrote suitably gushing letters to the love of their life! The letters were published on 'olde' paper to reflect the fact these events occurred in the 1700s!
Next week, the children will be writing their own version of the ending, with us having held the actual ending back from them so that it does not influence their own creativity!
