  • Water Transportation !

    Published 01/05/24, by Beth Bullard

In year 3 this week we have been looking at the different functions of stems, roots and leaves in helping plants to repair and grow. Pictured above is our celery experiment using food colouring and water to see how water is transported throughout the plant. This afternoon we had a look at the results and were able to see the holes and track the channels of the water being transported through the celery stick.

For the next few weeks we are also seeing the effect of the amount of water on plant growth... our windowsills in class are full of experiments lately and the children are loving checking on them each morning. Watch this space for the results!

Welcome back everybody! We hope you had a wonderful Easter break!

Our Arts Curriculum timetable for this term:

    Reminders:

    • Please send your child in with a healthy snack for morning and afternoon breaks. If you are able to label it with a name, that would be great! Please note that baked crisps do not count as a healthy snack. If you are unsure, please stick to fruit and vegetables.
    • Children must wear their coats for breaktimes outside.
    • Reading records are to be handed in daily to be checked, regardless if the child has read or not.
    • Please label all uniform, we have a lot of lost property at the moment.
    • Please ensure children are wearing the correct uniform, as well as on PE days.

    Key Dates for this term:

Monday 6th May - bank holiday, school closed

Friday 17th May - Parents / carers come read with me

  • Spellings

    Published 15/03/24, by Admin

Apologies for the lack of consistency spellings the last few weeks! We have had a few off timetable days and theme days meaning hasn't been possible to fit everything in(not that the children probably minded!) But back to it for next week!

We ask that the children bring in their completed spelling sheets on Friday morning at the latest.

Children that do not bring in the sheet will spend part of their golden time completing it.

If you have lost your sheet, please ask for another before Friday!

Alternatively, practise on a piece of paper at home and bring that to show us! :)

If there is a legitimate reason for your child to have not completed the spellings / left them at home, please let me know.

Apart from our common exception words, all our spellings this week are words ending in -ing, doubling the consonant, for prod becomes prodding.

    prodding

    beginning

    spinning

    nodding

    shrugging

    dropping

    skipping

    running

    Earth

    bicycle

  • Neurodiversity Week - Dyslexia Focus

    Published 15/03/24, by Admin

Our focus for Neurodiversity Week has been dyslexia. We read Aaron Slater, Illustrator by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIdwQVG0RvU and discussed what it's like to have dyslexia.

We talked about people we know and famous people who have dyslexia and how they have found ways to overcome challenges they face. For example because Aaron found it difficult to read and write when he had to share a story with his class he drew his story instead.

We also took part in an activity where we wrote in different ways to experience what it might have been like for Aaron if he was writing his story with words.

We had some great discussions and thought a lot about how Aaron kept going and found a way to use the things he was good at to help him.
